The University has four main funding sources:
- State-aided funding, consisting primarily of state funds appropriated by the Unicameral, and tuition revenue.
- Revolving/Auxiliary funds, which are dollars generated and used by specific university entities, such as some academic departments, athletics, student housing, and parking services.
- Grants and contracts, which are awarded to the University for very specific purposes and include rules for how the funding may be spent.
- University of Nebraska Foundation funds, which are comprised of financial gifts from donors.
