Effective July 1, 2026, the University of Nebraska - Lincoln's Interim Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance will lift the pause on permanent salary increases associated with reclassification (advancement and promotion) requests that was originally implemented on October 30, 2025.
Starting April 1, 2026, new reclassification requests can be submitted through the normal PeopleAdmin process. The permanent salary increases actions will have an effective date of July 2, 2026, unless UNL HR advises otherwise. The salary increase should not be included in the budget file, and instead, be processed via a PAF action.
Detailed guidance will be provided to HR staff responsible for processing reclassification actions.

Reclassification Request Procedure
Reclassifications (Advancements and Promotions) will continue to be reviewed, but permanent increases will not be approved at this time.
The updated reclassification submission process is outlined below:
- Unit HR staff will initiate a reclassification request in PDM and submit to the required approver.
- UNL HR will review the request to determine if a reclassification is warranted.
- If the reclassification is supported, UNL HR will not finalize the action. They will send it back to the Initiator with a recommended salary increase. HR staff should leave the action pending at their level until Step 6. NOTE: A permanent increase should not be processed at this time.
- The unit may choose to request a temporary overload for the recommended salary increase by initiating a Salary Determination Form (SDF).
- UNL HR will review the SDF and approve a temporary overload through June 30, 2026.
- Once the guidance is lifted the original PDM action can be re-submitted.
- UNL HR will review the request, finalize the classification and seek Chancellor and President approval for the permanent increase as required.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Please inform employees that approved overloads are temporary, and a permanent increase is not guaranteed.
- If an employee will surpass the two-year maximum for temporary overload pay prior to June 30, 2026, please contact UNL HR.
- If a permanent increase is approved prior to June 30, 2026, the unit must remove the temporary overload when the permanent increase becomes effective.
