All UNL employees must provide a copy of their social security card as a requirement of employment. Failure to sign the card does not invalidate it.
NOTE: There is an attachment field in the new hire/rehire DocuSign packets for the employee to upload a copy of their social security card. It is a required field in the non-NRA packets, and an optional field in the NRA packets.
Employees who do not have a social security card and need to obtain a replacement card can visit the following website: https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber. When submitting paperwork, a receipt or documentation of the employee's application for a replacement card must be used in lieu of a copy of the card until the replacement card is received. Once the employee receives the replacement card, the department should make a copy of it and submit to Payroll through the secure SharePoint site. It is recommended that departments follow-up with employees on a weekly basis until a copy of the replacement card is obtained.
